Below is a list of readings I've completed and an ultra brief review of each. The topics will vary and are in no particular order. As this list expands it may spill into a separate drive doc shared with community members. By no means is this list the ONLY material I recommend, just things that have caught my attention enough to share. NOTE: This is a working document that will be published immediately and updated regularly
Agriculture:
You Can Farm by Joel Salatin
-If you're considering starting a farm, start here
Your Successful Farm Business by Joel Salatin
-If "You Can Farm" strikes your fancy, continue here
The Marvelous Pigness of Pigs by Joel Salatin
-Applying Christian principles to farming. Joel argues that current production strategies are not good stewardship and I have to say, his points are pretty solid.
Economics:
Basic Economics by Thomas Sowell
- Sowell's economics text book. He's a master of explaining complex topics in plain ways meaning that almost anyone who pics this book up can read and understand the basics of economics. Spoiler Alert: if you actually read it all you'll understand how bad we're getting hosed on taxes.
Black Rednecks and White Liberals by Thomas Sowell
-The effects of the welfare state, southern culture, all sorts of spicy topics rolled into one sweet book.
The Theft of a Decade by Joseph C Sternberg
- The economy sucks and yes, millennials did get shafted during the 2008 financial crisis. That being said the topic is not all black and white. This book discusses the economic challenges facing millennials specifically but is applicable to readers of any age.
Economics in One Lesson Henry Hazlitt
Politics:
The New Right by Michael Malice
-Political divisions run deep these days and Malice (an awesome libertarian and top tier troll) discusses both left wing lunacy and the new formation of right wing fringe groups.
Anatomy of State by Murray Rothbard
-If you've ever felt like your vote doesn't matter then you might want to give this short read a try. Impactful and makes your talks with libertarians make a lot more sense.
Rise of the Warrior Cop by Radley Balko
-Lot of attention around police shootings these days. This book focuses on the legal, policy, and tactical changes in US police departments over the decades. Spoiler alert: the war on drugs did it.
History:
Unit 731 by Hal Gold
-Not recommended for those with a weak stomach
Ordinary Men by Christopher R Browning
-Describes a german reserve police battalion committing atrocities during WW2. The book itself is not overly riveting but adds value to other books discussing power dynamics, group vs individual actions, spicy things like that.
Rando:
Parasitic Mind by Gad Saad
- Gad, Like Jordan Peterson, had been targeted for his willingness to speak out against the woke ideology. He has a great sense of humor and it comes through in both his writing and podcast.
12 Rules for life by Jordan Peterson
-The Plato of our generation, Jordan Peterson discusses 12 things you can do each day to minimize chaos and maximize order in your life. CLEAN YOUR DAMN ROOM!
Extreme Ownership by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin
-Just a couple of SEALs talking leadership strategy with a whole bunch of gangster war stories mixed in. Maybe not for everyone but a solid read. Changed my perspective on what a good leader is as well as what it means to be a team player.
On Killing by Lt Col Dave Grossman
-Life is all about sex and death. Apparently killing people isn't easy. If you aren't prepared for it psychologically, it'll mess you up. Grossman discusses human on human violence, our unnatural separation form death in the modern world, and coping with such things.
Fiction (honorable mentions):
Animal Farm
Starship Troopers
The Forever War
1984
